Rehabilitation & Healing Process
At Dorothea Rescue Centre, rehabilitation is a carefully structured journey that allows each girl to heal, regain stability, and prepare for a brighter future. This process is gradual, compassionate, and tailored to the needs of girls aged 6β11 years.
ποΈ Initial 21-Day Orientation Period
The first 21 days at the centre are dedicated to orientation and emotional stabilization. This is a critical period where each girl is gently introduced to a new, safe, and structured environment.
During this time, the girls are supported to:
- Feel safe, accepted, and cared for
- Adjust to daily routines and centre life
- Build trust with caregivers, social workers, and fellow girls
- Receive guidance on basic hygiene and personal care
- Begin light, informal interactions and activities
This period is handled with patience and sensitivity, recognizing that many girls come from difficult and unstable backgrounds.
π©Ί Medical Check-Up & Health Support
Upon admission, every child undergoes a comprehensive medical check-up to assess their overall health.
This includes:
- General physical examination
- Treatment of any existing illnesses or injuries
- Nutritional assessment and support
- Ongoing medical care where needed
Ensuring good health is a key step in helping each girl recover physically and emotionally.
π Informal Learning & Skill Development
Before joining formal school, the girls participate in informal learning activities designed to rebuild confidence and spark curiosity.
These include:
- Basic literacy and numeracy
- Reading and storytelling
- Creative activities (drawing, music, play)
- Life skills such as hygiene, responsibility, and teamwork
This approach helps the girls gradually reconnect with learning in a relaxed and supportive environment.
π Psychosocial Support & Counselling
Healing goes beyond physical care. The girls receive continuous:
- Emotional support
- Individual and group counselling
- Mentorship and guidance
This helps them process past experiences, build self-esteem, and develop a sense of belonging.
β³ 3β6 Months Rehabilitation Period
Rehabilitation typically takes between 3 to 6 months, depending on each childβs needs and progress.
During this time, the focus is on:
- Emotional healing
- Behavioral adjustment
- Social development
- Building confidence and independence
Each girl is carefully monitored to ensure she is ready for the next step.
π Preparation for School Enrollment
Once a child is stable and ready, she is supported to transition into formal education.
This includes:
- Assessment of learning level
- School placement
- Provision of school uniforms and supplies
- Continued follow-up and academic support
π Our Goal
To provide a safe space where every girl can heal, grow, and regain the strength and confidence to pursue her education and future dreams.
