At the time, she was living on the streets of Kiandutu in Thika Town, Kiambu County, where she survived through begging and exposure to harmful environments. Life on the streets pushed her into the abuse of hard drugs, including excessive use of marijuana. At one point, the drug use affected her so severely that she could no longer recognize her own relatives. Her childhood had been overshadowed by pain, vulnerability, and the constant struggle to survive.
Everything changed when she was rescued and taken to Dorothea Rescue Centre. There, Rosalyne began a new journey—one filled with care, rehabilitation, and hope. She received counselling, medical support, and a safe environment that allowed her to heal from the trauma and the destructive habits she had developed on the streets.
As her health and emotional well-being improved, Rosalyne was enrolled in school at Grade Five. Despite her late start and the challenges, she had faced, she demonstrated remarkable determination. She focused on her studies, worked hard, and quickly caught up with her peers. Her commitment bore fruit when she sat for her first national examination in Grade Six and performed well, achieving a “Meeting Expectation” level.
Encouraged by this success, Rosalyne transitioned into Junior Secondary School (Grade Seven) with confidence. Over the next three years, she continued to excel academically and personally. Her teachers often praised her positive attitude, discipline, and growing leadership skills.
In 2025, Rosalyne sat for her final Kenya Junior School Education Assessment. This time, she exceeded all expectations. She attained an “Exceeding Expectation” level—an outstanding achievement that reflects not just her academic strength but also her resilience and transformation.
Today, Rosalyne Njambi stands as a powerful example of what hope, support, and second chances can achieve. From a vulnerable child battling substance abuse on the streets, she has risen to become a confident and high-performing learner with high chances of joining a national senior school. SUCCESS STORY OF LATOYA WAMBOI
Latoya Wamboi’s life began in one of the most challenging environments imaginable. Born on the streets of Nairobi, Kenya, she entered the world already surrounded by hardship. Her mother struggled with deep addiction to multiple hard drugs—including bhang, cocaine, and marijuana—and lived a life marked by instability and neglect. Latoya’s father was never clearly known, as her mother’s severe drug dependency made it impossible to trace or identify him.
Growing up in these circumstances, Latoya never experienced the security, care, or consistency that every child deserves. By the age of 6 years, she was already wandering through the streets, seeking compassion from well-wishers just to survive. Her mother, overwhelmed by addiction, would give Latoya excess medication to make her sleep so she could roam the streets at night. This exposed Latoya to harmful substances at a very tender age, affecting her health and well-being.
Everything changed in 2023, when Latoya was rescued by Dorothea Rescue Centre. She was found lonely, neglected, and vulnerable—living a life no child should ever endure. Her rescue marked the beginning of a new chapter filled with hope, restoration, and opportunity.
Upon arrival at Dorothea Rescue Centre, Latoya was immediately taken through a thorough medical assessment and detoxification process to cleanse her body from the harmful substances she had been exposed to since childhood. With proper nutrition, health care, and emotional support, her condition slowly improved. The Centre became the safe home she had never known.
Once her health stabilized, Latoya was enrolled in school, where her transformation became even more remarkable. Despite her difficult start in life, she blossomed into a bright, hardworking, and highly motivated learner. Teachers quickly noticed her intelligence and natural academic ability.
Latoya’s dedication paid off when she excelled in her Lower Primary national examinations, earning recognition as one of the best-performing pupils in her school. Today, she continues her education in Upper Primary, thriving both academically and socially. Her confidence has grown, and she now dreams of a future far beyond the limitations of her past.

SUCCESS STORY OF ESTHER WANGARE
Esther Wangare’s childhood was shaped by hardship long before she was old enough to understand the meaning of loss. Everything changed the day her father—the sole provider for their family—passed away. His death pushed Esther, her mother, and her younger sister into a life of uncertainty. Overwhelmed by grief and unable to cope with the new reality, Esther’s mother eventually abandoned her two young daughters on the streets of Nairobi’s Central Business District, leaving them to fend for themselves.
With no home, no food, and no protection, Esther and her little sister were thrust into the harsh world of street survival. They were forced to drop out of school and rely entirely on the compassion of strangers. Each day, they wandered through busy streets and crowded sidewalks, begging for a few coins or scraps of food. At night, they curled up in old sacks, using them as blankets to shield their small bodies from the cold and unforgiving Nairobi nights.
At only 10 years old, Esther took on roles no child should ever bear. She engaged in child labor, exchanging long hours of work for a simple meal to keep her sister alive. On the darkest days, she was used by dangerous individuals to peddle harmful substances, risking her safety just to secure food for the two of them. In these moments of vulnerability, the sisters were also exposed to the destructive world of drug abuse that surrounded street life.
But even in the middle of this despair, hope had not forgotten Esther.
During routine street outreach by Dorothea Rescue Centre social workers, Esther was identified as a child in urgent need of care and protection. Her courage, her instinct to protect her younger sister, and her quiet resilience touched their hearts. She was rescued and finally taken into a safe, nurturing environment—one where she could rest, heal, and dream again.
At the rescue Centre, Esther began a journey of rehabilitation and restoration. She received medical care to address the physical harm and malnutrition she had suffered. Through consistent counselling and emotional support, she slowly began to heal from the trauma of abandonment, exploitation, and survival on the streets. Her smile, once hidden behind fear and exhaustion, started to return.
When her rehabilitation was complete, Esther was enrolled into Grade 5. Despite starting late and having missed years of schooling, she embraced her education with astonishing determination. Supported by Dorothea Rescue Centre and compassionate benefactors, she blossomed into a focused, disciplined, and high-achieving learner.
Her hard work paid off. Esther not only caught up with her peers but excelled. She successfully transitioned into Junior Secondary School, becoming one of the most dedicated students in her class.

Her exceptional performance places her among the top students preparing to join Senior School in 2026, with strong chances of joining a high-performing institution.
