About Us

Our Mission

Dorothea Rescue Centre is a child-focused organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and reintegrating street-connected girls aged 4 to 11 from Nairobi and its metropolitan region. We exist to restore dignity, safety and hope to girls exposed to life on the streets.

“Thanks to donated funds and the support of many people, the Centre opened its doors in 2021, offering a safe shelter, education, healthcare and vocational training toward economic independence.”

How It Started

The idea for the Centre came from Sister Caroline Ngatia of the Assumption Sisters of Eldoret, who has worked with street girls since 2010. Over the years, she recognised the need for a place that could welcome them and support their reintegration into society.

Why This Matters

Street-connected girls face heightened risks: abuse, neglect, exploitation, and limited access to food, shelter, education and healthcare. Dorothea Rescue Centre responds with a holistic, child-centred approach that prioritises protection, healing, and long-term reintegration into safe family and community environments.

Protection

Immediate safety from abuse and exploitation on the streets.

Healing

Medical care, detox support and trauma-informed counseling.

Growth

Education and vocational training toward independence.

Reintegration

A safe return to family or a welcoming community.
