Dairy Farming

Since 2022, Dorothea Rescue Centre has implemented agricultural initiatives and small-scale animal farming to support its operational costs. These initiatives include expanding the number of chickens, thereby increasing the production of eggs and meat for sale to local schools and supermarkets.

Our dairy cows provide nutritious milk for the girls at the Centre, reducing the cost of purchasing milk from external suppliers. Any surplus milk is sold, and the income generated is used to purchase essential food items such as maize flour and rice, helping to ensure a consistent food supply and improved nutrition for the girls.

The expansion of pig farming and dairy production, supported by the purchase of dairy cows and piglets, will promote product diversification, generate additional income, and strengthen the Centre’s long-term financial sustainability.
